A man who chillingly branded himself a 'dangerous man' on social media while threatening to 'take out' politicians has been jailed for five years after police uncovered a terrifying arsenal of weapons at his home.
Christopher Cook, 39, came to the attention of authorities after posting alarming messages online where he openly discussed being armed and made threats against public figures. The concerning posts prompted an immediate investigation by Kent Police's serious crime directorate.
The Shocking Discovery
When officers raided Cook's property in Dartford, they made a discovery that justified their worst fears. Hidden within the residence was a lethal collection of firearms that included:
- A loaded shotgun, ready for immediate use
- Multiple rounds of ammunition
- Additional firearms components
Detective Sergeant Tanya Sprunks of Kent Police described the find as 'deeply concerning,' emphasising that 'Cook had access to lethal weapons and had expressed violent intentions.'
A Pattern of Dangerous Behaviour
Maidstone Crown Court heard how Cook's online persona as a 'dangerous man' wasn't just empty boasting. Evidence presented showed a consistent pattern of threatening behaviour combined with actual access to deadly weapons.
'This wasn't just talk,' DS Sprunks stated. 'He had the means to carry out his threats, making him a genuine danger to the public and specifically to those in public life.'
The Sentencing
Judge Philip Statman handed down a five-year prison sentence, noting the seriousness of possessing such weapons with apparent intent. Cook pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm and ammunition, acknowledging the gravity of his offences.
The case highlights the importance of taking online threats seriously and the effectiveness of police intervention in preventing potential tragedies.
DS Sprunks added: 'Thanks to proactive policing and thorough investigation, we've removed dangerous weapons from our streets and prevented potential harm to our community.'
