A 21-year-old woman was tragically found dead on a moored boat in the Welsh coastal town of Cardigan, with police arresting a man on suspicion of her murder.
A Community in Mourning
Corinna Baker, described by her heartbroken family as a "beautiful angel", was last seen alive on Thursday night before her body was discovered on Saturday afternoon. The discovery was made onboard a vessel at the Netpool Boat Yard, a former boat-building site in the town.
Her sister, Caitlyn, paid a moving tribute, stating: "Heaven has the most beautiful, funny, stubborn angel entering the gates." Locals in the close-knit community of around 4,000 people echoed this sentiment, remembering Corinna as a "sweetheart" and a "lovely" young woman from a well-known family who run a local pub.
Police Investigation and Appeal
Dyfed Powys Police were called to the scene at approximately 12:35 pm on Saturday, November 15. A 29-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.
Authorities have confirmed they are particularly keen to speak to anyone who was in the area of the Netpool Boat Yard from around 9 pm on Thursday, November 13, who may have witnessed anything suspicious. The police presence in the town has been increased as the investigation continues.
As part of their forensic enquiries, officers were seen removing a boat from the scene, which was covered in black tarpaulin. The Netpool slipway and nearby access roads were cordoned off for examination.
A Shocked Seaside Town
The boatyard is situated at the mouth of the River Teifi estuary, a popular spot with anglers and visitors. The area is characterised by former fishermen's cottages, and some of the boats in the yard are known to be occupied.
Residents expressed their shock at the violent incident occurring in what is normally a "quiet place." One local noted the overwhelming police presence, saying, "There were police cars everywhere - it is obviously very serious." The thoughts of the entire community are with Corinna's grieving family as they attempt to come to terms with their devastating loss.
