Cats Missing 2 Years Found 1,000 Miles Away, Reunited

A Portland woman's long-held wish finally came true when her beloved orange cats returned home two years after mysteriously vanishing. Zeus and Hercules, Ragdoll-Maine Coon mixes, disappeared from Dianna Rabetoy's yard in May 2024 when they were just under a year old.

The heartbroken owner posted fliers and sought help on Nextdoor to locate her precious pets, but no leads emerged. She had resigned herself to never seeing Zeus or Hercules again, suspecting someone must have taken them from her yard.

Everything changed on Friday when the cat owner received a call from a Los Angeles shelter. The shelter had found them and identified them via their microchips. 'I was excited,' she told KOIN 6. 'I never thought I’d see them again. God is good.'

It remains unknown how the pets ended up nearly 1,000 miles from home. With a friend's help, Rabetoy flew to California the next day to collect the long-haired animals, who weigh 15 and 18 pounds. She and the fluffy duo returned home the same day.

'I just can’t stop smiling that they’re home!' the delighted cat owner said, adding that both boys are healthy and happy to be back. 'I wish I could ask them about their travels,' she added. 'That would be kind of fun.'

Rabetoy now encourages other pet owners to microchip their animals and keep the information up to date in case of emergencies.

Similar Reunion in Southern California

In a related story, Michelle Bluestone from Southern California was recently reunited with her dog Lola after five years. Lola had slipped through a fence at her parents' house in 2021 and vanished. In February 2026, an animal shelter called to say they had found Lola just 30 minutes from her parents' house. The pair were quickly reunited, and Lola settled back into life with Bluestone, her husband, and their dog Sunny.
