A British tourist who died after falling 'face first' down a stairwell in Tenerife lay undiscovered for more than three hours, it has emerged. The 24-year-old from Liverpool was found at his holiday apartment complex in Playa de las Americas on Saturday. He is believed to have fallen from the second floor around 2.30am, but his body was not discovered until approximately 6am by a Spanish resident.
Details of the Incident
The victim had reportedly attended an electronic music festival in nearby Costa Adeje earlier the same day with a Polish friend. A source stated: 'The emergency services were alerted via a call from a Spanish man just before 6am on Saturday, but the estimated time of death has been put at around 2.30am that morning, meaning the victim would have been lying undiscovered for more than three hours.' The friend was sleeping at the time of the incident and was informed hours later.
Investigation and Police Statement
Spain's National Police confirmed the deceased was British and stated: 'This is not being treated as a crime at this stage. Pending the full autopsy results, everything is pointing to this man suffering a tragic accident.' Officers believe he may have woken during the night and left the fourth-floor apartment moments before falling two floors down.
Medics rushed to the Parque Santiago 2 apartment complex on Avenida Rafael Puig Lluvina but could not save him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. A police report has been submitted to a local investigating court, and the full post-mortem results, including tests for alcohol or drugs, will be made available to the judge overseeing the inquiry.
