The Court of Appeal has dismissed Bhim Kohli's attempt to overturn his manslaughter conviction, leaving the 71-year-old to serve his sentence for the killing of his wife.
Kohli was originally convicted in 2022 after a trial revealed he had strangled his wife, Narinder Kaur, during a domestic dispute at their family home. The prosecution argued that Kohli acted in a moment of rage, while the defence claimed diminished responsibility due to his mental state.
A Tragic Case That Shocked the Community
The case drew significant attention due to its harrowing details and the age of the defendant. Friends and neighbours described the couple as seemingly happy, making the violent nature of the crime all the more shocking.
During the appeal, Kohli's legal team argued that the original trial had misdirected the jury on key aspects of the evidence. However, the Court of Appeal ruled that the conviction was sound and that the jury had been properly instructed.
Justice Served, Say Prosecutors
The Crown Prosecution Service welcomed the decision, stating that it brings closure to a painful chapter for the victim's family. "This was a tragic case of domestic violence with devastating consequences," a spokesperson said. "The court's decision reaffirms that such actions will not go unpunished."
Kohli, who was sentenced to nine years in prison, will now continue to serve his term without the possibility of an early release based on this appeal.
