In an extraordinary display of courage, a 96-year-old Oregon woman turned the tables on a home intruder, using her very own walking aid as a weapon of self-defence.
The incident unfolded in the quiet community of Marion County when 39-year-old Daniel William McWhorter allegedly forced his way into Vinetta Nage's residence. What he expected to be an easy target quickly became a fierce confrontation.
According to the Marion County Sheriff's Office, Ms Nage, refusing to be a victim, grabbed her cane and began striking the intruder. Her resilient defence forced McWhorter to retreat, but not before the altercation left the nonagenarian with minor injuries.
Sheriff's deputies responded promptly to the scene. Their investigation, which included reviewing doorbell camera footage, led them to a nearby property where McWhorter was located and taken into custody.
Daniel William McWhorter now faces a serious list of charges, including burglary, criminal trespass, and assault. He was arraigned and is currently being held at the Marion County Jail.
This event serves as a powerful reminder that strength and bravery are not defined by age. Ms Nage's quick thinking and determination prevented what could have been a far more tragic outcome.
