A 14-year-old boy has tragically died, and two teenagers are fighting for their lives following a devastating car crash in Victoria's north-west. Police reported that the vehicle was traveling along the Calder Highway when it veered off the road and collided with a tree near Woosang-Yeungroon Road in Woosang, shortly before 10am on Saturday.
Victim Identified
The deceased, a 14-year-old from the Mildura area, was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the Herald Sun, the teenager was known to police and had previously been granted bail for other offences. Friends have taken to social media to pay tribute, with one expressing grief over losing his 'big cousin'. 'Fly in heaven … just sad I seen (sic) it all last night,' he wrote. Another posted: 'Forever gonna miss u mah bruva (sic) can't believe ya gone, only 14.'
Injuries and Investigation
The 18-year-old driver, also reportedly known to police, and his 14-year-old passenger—both from the Mildura area—had to be extricated from the wreckage. They were airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Investigators believe the vehicle was stolen from a Mildura address overnight. The Calder Highway was expected to remain closed for an extended period as detectives examined the scene and probed the circumstances of the crash.
