Travis McDonnell, 21, of Terrace Road, Widnes, has been jailed for five years and six months after he jumped from a bedroom window in a bid to escape police. He was being arrested as part of an investigation into the supply of cocaine and cannabis in the town when he leapt from the window and tried to flee.
Officers detained him outside the address. A subsequent search of McDonnell's home uncovered quantities of cocaine, heroin and cannabis, police said. Officers also seized a mobile phone which contained messages relating to the supply of cocaine, heroin and cannabis.
Arrest and charges
McDonnell was initially arrested on June 12 as part of the ongoing investigation. He was arrested again on August 10 and subsequently charged with being concerned in the supply of cocaine and cannabis, as well as possession with intent to supply cocaine, heroin and cannabis.
He appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday, September 10, where he pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of cocaine, being concerned in the supply of a controlled class B drug (cannabis), and possession with intent to supply a controlled class A drug (cocaine).
Sentencing and police comment
He was sentenced to five years and six months in prison. Following the sentencing, PC Nicholls described McDonnell as a “prolific offender” and said he had “once again shown that he will return to his old ways of drug dealing as soon as he is released from prison”.
The officer urged McDonnell to use his prison sentence to “re-evaluate the poor decisions” he had continued to make. PC Nicholls added: “I hope this sentence will act as a reminder to anybody who thinks Widnes is an easy area to set up a drugs empire, to think again.”
