A man arrested on suspicion of murder in Dagenham has been de-arrested, the Metropolitan Police confirmed. The 75-year-old was initially taken into custody following the death of a 70-year-old woman in east London on Sunday. However, a post-mortem examination conducted on Tuesday led investigators to believe the woman died of natural causes. As a result, the man has been released without charge.
Sequence of Events
Police were called to a property on Boulton Road in Dagenham on Sunday, 14 June, where the woman was found dead. The 75-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. Following the post-mortem on Tuesday, 16 June, detectives revised their assessment.
Police Statement
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: "Detectives investigating the death of a 70-year-old woman in Dagenham believe she is likely to have died of natural causes. A post-mortem examination carried out on Tuesday, 16 June provisionally found that the death was a result of natural causes. A 75-year-old man who had been arrested at the property has since been de-arrested. Officers will continue to carry out enquiries before passing a file to the Coroner."
Ongoing Investigation
The investigation remains open, with police continuing their inquiries. The case will be referred to the coroner for further proceedings. The man's identity has not been disclosed.
