Lock Cottage, a former canal worker's home along the Monmouthshire and Brecon canal, has been transformed from a dark, damp, and dingy state into a modern and bright waterside home. The property, located just north of Bettws, is now for sale via online auction with a guide price of £118,000.
From industrial past to modern home
The cottage was once one of the lock keepers' homes along the canal network, which was constructed in the late 18th and early 19th centuries to transport limestone, iron ore, and coal to Newport. After being in a semi-derelict state, the current owners completely refurbished the two-bedroom cottage, including adding parking for up to four cars.
Angie Davey, from Paul Fosh Auctions, which is selling the cottage, said: "I see Lock Cottage as being an ideal location perhaps for an artist or writer looking for some peace and quiet in a secluded and idyllic location.
