Lyons boss orders Daniel clan takedown from Spanish jail

Steven Lyons has 'hit the kill switch' on a revenge plot to take down the Daniel crime clan from his Spanish jail cell. The head of the Lyons mob is awaiting trial in an Andalusian prison for drug trafficking and money laundering offences.

An underworld insider claims the crime boss has sent orders from the Costa Del Sol for his henchmen to dismantle rival Glasgow outfit "The Daniels" after brother Eddie Lyons Jnr and pal Ross Monaghan were shot dead at a pub in Fuengirola last year.

Orders from behind bars

The source said: "Steven has demanded that the Daniel leadership is eliminated forever. He is fed up with this war and wants it finished once and for all. The two guys he blames for the deaths of Eddie Lyons Jr and Ross Monaghan are hiding out. He was on the run for six months before the law eventually caught up with him. As soon as he was able to get the word out, he hit the kill switch. His men won't be backing down."

It comes after a fresh wave of attacks against members of the Daniel family and linked businesses. Last month a machete gang kicked in a door at Curzon Street in Maryhill in pursuit of Ronnie Daniel, 41, and trashed the property. Robert Daniel, 51, was also chased by the gang near his home on Honeywell Drive in Stepps in the early hours of the same morning.

Attacks on businesses

Kelvinside Motor Company on Milton Road in Kirkintilloch was hit on Tuesday, August 18, and Saturday, August 22. Daniel clan kingpin Francis 'Fraggle' Green is listed as a former director of the garage at Kirkintilloch Industrial Estate. A group of thugs wielding machetes turned up at the garage in the first attack on Tuesday. A burnt-out hatchback car was seen discarded outside the garage.

On Friday, August 21, around 1.40pm, a car was smashed into a home in East Renfrewshire. The property - which is understood to be linked to 45-year-old gangster Billy Steele - was fenced off as police seek to trace those involved. Motors were also torched at All Automotive car garage in the Tollcross area four days later.

Ongoing gang war

The insider added: "Steven has placed his trust in his own men to run things while he is away. The Lyons mob has been monitoring all the movements of the Daniel family members and key players."

The Daniel and Lyons crime gangs have been at war for over 25 years. Violence exploded in Scotland last year after crime kingpin Mark Richardson's cronies ripped off Ross McGill with fake bank notes in a botched £500,000 cocaine deal. The Lyons crew became embroiled in the violence after feeding McGill's mob information on rival Daniel members, who are long-term underworld allies to Richardson.

The bloodshed culminated in the deaths of Ross Monaghan and Eddie Lyons Jr who were executed at Monaghan's pub after a Champions League game on May 31, 2025. The double murder marked one of the most violent episodes during the gang war.

Mob boss Steven Lyons, who had been living quietly in Dubai, was booted out the UAE three months later. He moved around before being arrested on an Interpol Red Notice in Bali in March of this year. He was extradited to Spain where he is also wanted by cops in connection with an alleged murder in 2024.
