A 22-year-old groom-to-be was shot dead in Melbourne just weeks before his dream wedding, his family has confirmed in a heartbreaking tribute.
Daniel Hussein, a young plumber, died from a single gunshot wound to the chest at about 7:30pm local time (10:30am UK time) on Sunday, September 6, 2026, outside a Victoria Drive address in Thomastown, a northern suburb of Melbourne.
Police investigate fatal shooting
Victoria Police have launched an investigation into the incident. A spokesperson said: “Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in Thomastown this evening.
“Emergency services responded to reports a man was shot outside a Victoria Drive address shortly after 7.30pm.”
“Despite efforts to revive the man, who is yet to be formally identified, he was declared deceased at the scene. No arrests have been made at this stage.”
Family pays tribute to 'beloved' nephew
Daniel’s father confirmed his son died in the incident, according to news.com.au. His family said they have lost a ‘beloved’ son and nephew.
In a social media tribute, his uncle Abdallah Hussein said: “I still cannot believe you are gone.
“I still cannot understand that I will never see your smile again, never hear your voice, never watch you walk through that door again. The pain is enormous. The grief is beyond words.
“You were not only my nephew. You were a piece of my heart. A part of my life.
“A child I helped carry into this world, and someone I thought would be there until the end of mine.
“My beautiful Daniel…”
