Wanted Crime Boss Christy Kinahan Spotted at Dubai MMA Event Despite Bounty
Christy Kinahan Seen at Dubai MMA Event Despite $5M Bounty

Christy Kinahan, the head of a notorious global organised crime syndicate and one of the world's most wanted criminals, has been captured on camera at a mixed martial arts event in Dubai, seemingly living a life of luxury despite intense international scrutiny. Known for his sharp dressing and dubbed the 'Dapper Don', Kinahan was pictured for the first time in years, alongside his son Daniel, a key figure in the Kinahan cartel, at the 971 Fighting Championship last June.

Fugitives in Plain Sight

Perched in a VIP ringside seat, Christy Kinahan wore a Panama hat, a blue polo shirt, white trousers, and blue trainers, doing little to conceal his identity despite reportedly receiving anti-surveillance training. His son Daniel was also present at the six-hour event held at Dubai's Coca Cola Arena. The father and son fled from Spain to the United Arab Emirates in 2016 and went into hiding in April 2022, shortly after the United States government placed $5 million bounties on their heads and imposed severe sanctions on their criminal network.

US Allegations and Cartel Activities

US officials have accused the Kinahan cartel of smuggling deadly narcotics, including cocaine, into Europe, alongside involvement in money laundering and various drug-related crimes. The organisation is now estimated to be worth approximately £1.5 billion and is reportedly part of a 'super-cartel' that once controlled up to a third of Europe's cocaine trade. Additionally, the gang has been linked to Iran's intelligence services and the Islamic militant group Hezbollah, with allegations of assisting Russia in evading sanctions by shipping crude oil for the Kremlin.

Investigation Uncovers Lifestyle

An investigation conducted by the Sunday Times and the open-source investigative outlet Bellingcat revealed that Christy and Daniel Kinahan appear to be living freely in Dubai. This discovery comes despite the UAE's claims that it has frozen assets belonging to the Kinahans worth tens of millions of pounds. The images emerged just a month after the tenth anniversary of an attempted gangland hit on Daniel at a boxing event in a Dublin hotel ballroom, which resulted in another man's death.

Tracking the Fugitives

The pair were located after an image of Daniel, aged 48, was posted on a Dubai company's website. A months-long trawl through social media images and a meticulous frame-by-frame examination of a six-hour livestream from the MMA event showed Daniel sitting at one end of the VIP section and Christy, aged 68, at the other. Christy remained in his seat for most of the competition, ordering drinks and chatting with spectators, though he subtly obscured his face whenever cameras were directed towards him.

Confirmation of Identity

The Sunday Times confirmed Christy Kinahan's identity with sources who either knew him personally or have investigated his criminal activities. One source stated, 'It's him 100 per cent. He's put a little weight on around his face, but he's getting on now. He always looked after himself, but age is catching up with him.' While Christy and Daniel did not openly mingle at the event, they appeared to greet each other, indicating their continued association.

This sighting highlights the challenges faced by international law enforcement in apprehending high-profile fugitives, even when substantial rewards are offered. The Kinahans' apparent ability to maintain a VIP lifestyle in Dubai raises questions about the effectiveness of global sanctions and asset freezes in combating organised crime networks.
