Deportation of British Gang Leader Steven Lyons from Bali Postponed by Authorities
The scheduled deportation of British gangster Steven Lyons from Indonesia to Spain has been unexpectedly delayed by immigration officials in Bali. The 45-year-old crime boss was originally set to be extradited on Wednesday evening via Qatar Airways through Doha, but his departure has now been rescheduled for Thursday.
Immigration Office Confirms Delay Without Explanation
According to Husnan Handano, a spokesperson for Bali's immigration office, the deportation has been held up, though no specific reason was provided for the postponement. Lyons was apprehended at Bali's airport on Saturday under an Interpol Red Notice, just days after being deported from Qatar.
The arrest followed a coordinated police operation across Spain and Scotland last week, which resulted in the detention of thirteen individuals suspected of involvement in organised criminal activities. The Bali Immigration Office has officially branded Lyons as a "suspected leader of an international criminal organisation".
Extensive Criminal Network Uncovered
Authorities have accused Lyons of being the mastermind behind a network involved in managing fictitious companies and laundering money. His arrest is part of a broader two-year joint investigation into a suspected drug trafficking operation.
In Scotland, police conducted dawn raids at multiple locations, resulting in the arrest of eight men aged between 35 and 64. These individuals appeared in court facing various charges, including organised crime offences. Simultaneously, Spanish authorities executed coordinated raids in Malaga and Barcelona, leading to five additional arrests.
International Assets Seized and Family Arrests
Europol has confirmed that assets worth approximately £600,000, including a villa and two plots of land in Turkey, were seized as part of the operation. Furthermore, Lyons' wife, Amanda, was arrested at the couple's luxury apartment in Dubai on Monday.
Images released by the immigration office show Lyons visibly distressed, dressed in a black t-shirt and green shorts, clutching a wash bag while surrounded by law enforcement officers. Known to officials as SL, he appeared slumped with his head in his hands during the airport procession.
Background of the Fugitive Gang Leader
Lyons had been residing in Dubai after fleeing Scotland in 2006, as his family became embroiled in a violent feud with the rival Daniel crime clan. He was subsequently expelled from the United Arab Emirates in September last year after authorities grew weary of the notoriety generated by Scottish gangsters operating within their jurisdiction.
Police Scotland has confirmed Lyons' arrest and emphasised their ongoing collaboration with partner agencies across Europe to combat organised crime networks. The delay in his deportation adds another chapter to the international manhunt that has spanned multiple continents and jurisdictions.
