German police have launched a major investigation in the town of Hanau after discovering a deeply disturbing scene: a swastika symbol painted in what appears to be human blood.
The grim discovery was made at a residential property, sending shockwaves through the community still recovering from a devastating far-right terrorist attack that claimed eleven lives in 2020.
Disturbing Discovery
According to police statements, the offensive symbol was found daubed on a wall using blood, though authorities have not confirmed the exact source. Forensic teams were immediately dispatched to collect evidence and document the crime scene.
Hanau's mayor, Claus Kaminsky, expressed his horror at the incident, stating that such symbols of hatred have no place in their community, particularly given the town's tragic history with far-right violence.
Community Trauma Resurfaced
The timing and location of this incident are particularly sensitive for Hanau residents. In February 2020, a racist gunman killed nine people with immigrant backgrounds at two shisha bars before murdering his mother and then himself.
Local community leaders have voiced their alarm, noting that this latest incident appears designed to terrorise minority communities and revive painful memories of the 2020 attack.
Investigation Underway
Police have confirmed they are treating this as a politically motivated crime and are pursuing multiple lines of inquiry. Officers are reviewing CCTV footage from the area and conducting house-to-house enquiries.
Authorities have appealed to the public for any information that might help identify those responsible for what they've described as "a despicable act of hatred."
The investigation continues as German authorities face ongoing challenges in combating far-right extremism and hate crimes across the country.
