Police have released an image of a man they believe set an 82-year-old man on fire outside a mosque in west London last month. The attack occurred at around 8pm on 27 February near the West London Islamic Centre in Ealing.
According to detectives, the suspect engaged the victim in conversation for about five minutes as they both left the mosque on Singapore Road. He then allegedly doused the elderly man in a liquid, believed to be petrol, and set him alight with a lighter before walking away.
The 82-year-old victim was taken to hospital with severe burns to his face and arms. Police have not provided an update on his condition.
Detective Sergeant Steven Constable described the incident as “incredibly shocking” and urged anyone who recognises the suspect to come forward. He said local officers have been conducting daily reassurance patrols at the mosque, and police are working closely with the West London Islamic Centre.
