YouTuber Morgan Burtwistle, known as Angryginge, confronted an alleged racist fan during England's 0-0 draw with Ghana at Boston Stadium on Tuesday night. He reported the incident to stewards but criticized their response, claiming the fan was only moved to another seat rather than ejected from the stadium.
Incident Details
During the match, Burtwistle heard a fan making what he described as "incredibly racist comments toward the Ghanaian national team." He uploaded a video after the game, pointing to an empty seat and stating: "We have a situation where the gentleman that is sat there is being racist. I've reported it to the steward because, kick it out is the saying, I will stand by that."
In the video, Burtwistle said a steward told him no action could be taken unless the fan repeated the comment. He responded: "I said there's no way on earth. All of us have heard it. He's got to go."
Fan's Apology and Removal
The accused fan turned around and apologized, saying: "I'm sorry about my comment about Ghana, it won't happen again. Can we just forget about it?" Burtwistle replied: "Forget about you being racist!? No, mate."
Although the fan was eventually removed from his seat, Burtwistle claimed he was only relocated to another part of the stadium to watch the remainder of the game. He condemned the stewarding, calling it "an absolute f***ing disgrace" and stating: "He's been allowed to watch the whole game after the things he was saying about the Ghana team."
Call for Action
Burtwistle, a Manchester United fan, urged better enforcement of anti-racism policies, saying: "The message before the game is kick it out - if you see it, say it. I've gone and reported it, he's not been kicked out of the stadium." He also claimed the fan had asked him to promote a brand, which he vowed to expose.
England had opened Group L with a 4-2 win against Croatia but were held to a goalless draw by Ghana. The incident has sparked debate about stewarding standards at the World Cup.
