Heald Green fraud warning as elderly residents targeted

Police have warned residents in the Stockport suburb of Heald Green to remain vigilant following a recent increase in fraudulent activity targeting elderly and vulnerable people.

Doorstep callers posing as tradespeople

Officers said people have been knocking on doors claiming to be tradespeople, contractors or officials. In many cases, they demand payment for work that is either unnecessary, significantly overpriced, or never completed.

There has been an increase in fraud reports over recent weeks, according to the force.

Advice for residents

In a post on the GMP Stockport Facebook page, the force urged residents to remain vigilant and help protect family members, friends, and neighbours who may be vulnerable to this type of fraud.

People have been urged to trust their instincts when it comes to callers at their homes. Police added that anyone concerned about a caller or feeling threatened at the door should call 101 in a non-emergency, and always call 999 in an emergency.

Anyone with information about suspicious individuals operating in the area is asked to report it via 101 or through Live Chat on the website, with police stating that working together can help protect vulnerable members of the community and prevent them from becoming victims of fraud.
