The Federal Bureau of Investigation has issued a warning about an international scam involving fraudulent 'Trump Bucks' that has been targeting Americans, particularly the elderly. Two citizens of North Macedonia, Goran Spiridonov, 25, and Kristina Janeva, 39, have been charged in connection with a scheme that allegedly swindled hundreds of thousands of dollars from victims.
Charges and Allegations
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, Spiridonov and Janeva were charged last week with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, and aggravated identity theft. They remain at large. Prosecutors allege that the duo sold fake products, including 'Trump Bucks' and 'Trump Rebate Banking,' which were advertised on Telegram. These products were falsely claimed to be preloaded with tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars redeemable at banks during a Trump presidency, with proceeds supporting causes tied to the president, including his reelection campaign.
False Claims and Elderly Victims
U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton stated that the scam often targeted elderly Americans, exploiting their support for President Trump. 'As alleged, the defendants created a fictitious financial instrument and marketed it to Americans around the country under the false pretense that 'Trump Bucks' was affiliated with the funding of President Trump's re-election campaign and other causes associated with the President and the Trump Organization,' Clayton said. He emphasized that these statements were 'all lies' and that the products are 'worthless' with 'no affiliation at all with President Trump, his family members, or members of his administration.'
Legal Consequences and Ongoing Vigilance
If convicted, Spiridonov and Janeva could face more than 20 years in prison. A Trump Organization spokesperson expressed gratitude to law enforcement for bringing the scam to light. Officials warn that the scam may still be ongoing and urge Americans to remain vigilant. 'Importantly, this conduct may be ongoing, and we strongly urge anyone targeted not to provide financial information or funds to any entity related to 'Trump Bucks' or the fictitious products pictured in this press release,' Clayton added. The White House referred inquiries to the Justice Department and the Trump Organization.
