Fake Danish Prince Scam: Woman Loses £100k in Gambling Addiction Romance
Fake Danish Prince Romance Scam Leaves Woman £100k Down

A Texas-based influencer has revealed how her fairytale romance with a man pretending to be Danish royalty collapsed into a nightmare, leaving her nearly £100,000 out of pocket after discovering his severe gambling addiction.

The Croatian Meeting That Sparked a Global Romance

Onyeka Ehie, a 31-year-old former US Bachelor contestant, first encountered the handsome stranger in June 2022 at Hula Hula beach club in Croatia. "The first thing that came to my mind was this man looks like he was walking straight out of a Calvin Klein ad," she recalled in her viral TikTok series, 'The Danish Deception'.

Their holiday connection quickly intensified when he pursued her with lavish invitations to Ibiza and Monaco. She accepted the Monaco trip, where their relationship accelerated dramatically. "Despite it being their first time seeing each other again after Croatia, they both ended up saying 'I love you,'" she explained.

The Royal Facade and Mounting Debts

The man, who remains unnamed, bolstered his claims of being Danish royalty by funding luxury hotels, expensive dinners, and shopping sprees. He even travelled to Texas to meet Onyeka's family, where he allegedly told them he'd won an Olympic gold medal.

However, the first major red flag appeared when he suddenly requested £50,000, claiming problems with a property he owned. When Onyeka questioned why his wealthy family wouldn't help, he cited "old issues" with his father.

"She said she offered to help. At first he refused, then eventually accepted - and that was only the beginning," the story reveals. The financial demands continued escalating until he owed her nearly £100,000.

The Devastating Unraveling and Public Revelation

Despite the growing financial concerns, the couple married and honeymooned. However, rumours of his gambling problem began circulating, which he dismissed as historical. The final confrontation came when Onyeka discovered he owed another person £200,000 and that the screenshots he'd sent proving his wealth were fabricated.

When she challenged him, he reacted explosively and ultimately disappeared. The full extent of his deception then emerged - he'd been seeing another woman throughout their relationship, and his family confirmed they weren't royalty and were well aware of his gambling issues.

Onyeka decided to share her story publicly through a 30-part TikTok series, stating: "I do not want to be complicit in him scamming other people. I also wanted to bring awareness to gambling addiction. It is truly invisible until it's catastrophic."

The online reaction has been divided, with some criticising her for ignoring red flags while others offer sympathy for her situation. Regardless of perspective, her story has ignited important conversations about manipulation, financial abuse, and the devastating impact of gambling addiction on relationships.
