A devastating fire swept through a residential building in the popular tourist area of Magaluf on the Spanish island of Mallorca early Thursday morning, resulting in two fatalities and multiple injuries, according to authorities.

The blaze erupted around 5 a.m. on the third floor of the building, as reported by the Civil Guard. Residents made valiant but unsuccessful attempts to extinguish the flames, which subsequently spread to the rest of the structure. Firefighters managed to bring the fire under control approximately two hours later, after evacuating more than 12 people from the premises.
A Civil Guard spokesperson, speaking anonymously in line with department policy, confirmed that nine individuals were transported to medical facilities for treatment of smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
