Notorious paedophile and former Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins has been brutally stabbed inside one of Britain's most secure prisons, the Mirror can reveal.
The 47-year-old convicted child sex offender was attacked at HMP Wakefield, known as 'Monster Mansion' for housing some of the country's most dangerous criminals. The assault is believed to be connected to mounting drug debts accumulated within the prison system.
Violent Attack in Secure Unit
Sources confirm that Watkins was targeted in a pre-meditated attack within the Category A prison's vulnerable prisoner unit. The assailant used a makeshift weapon during the violent confrontation, leaving the disgraced musician with significant injuries.
Prison staff intervened rapidly, with Watkins receiving immediate medical attention before being transferred to an outside hospital for further treatment. His condition is described as serious but not life-threatening.
History of Prison Violence
This isn't the first time Watkins has faced violence behind bars. The convicted sex offender has previously been attacked by fellow inmates outraged by the nature of his crimes against children.
HMP Wakefield has a reputation for housing high-profile sex offenders and murderers, with previous notable inmates including Roy Whiting, the killer of Sarah Payne, and Soham murderer Ian Huntley.
Mounting Prison Debts
Prison insiders suggest Watkins had accumulated substantial debts related to contraband substances within the prison system. The drug economy in UK prisons remains a persistent problem, with substances often commanding prices significantly higher than street value.
A Prison Service spokesperson stated: "Police are investigating an incident at HMP Wakefield. We are unable to comment further while the investigation is ongoing."
Watkins is currently serving a 29-year sentence after being convicted in 2013 of multiple child sex offences, including the attempted rape of a baby. The shocking nature of his crimes led to widespread revulsion and previous attacks during his incarceration.
