A father from Greater Manchester has bravely shared the harrowing details of a vicious XL Bully attack that left him and his young son traumatised and injured, just weeks after the breed was officially banned.
Ian Price, 35, was walking his six-year-old son to school in a seemingly ordinary neighbourhood when the unthinkable happened. Without warning, an out-of-control XL Bully launched itself at them, its jaws clamping down on the terrified father.
'It Was Like Something From A Horror Film'
"It latched onto my arm and just would not let go," Ian recounted, the horror of the moment still fresh. "The power in its jaw was unbelievable. It was shaking its head, and I was being thrown around like a ragdoll. I was screaming for help, trying to protect my boy. It was like something from a horror film."
His primary concern was for his son's safety, who watched on in terror as his father fought off the powerful animal. The attack only ended when brave neighbours rushed out of their homes, desperately trying to distract the dog and pull it away.
A Nationwide Problem Persists
This shocking incident in Tyldesley is not isolated. It comes amidst a troubling surge in attacks involving the now-illegal breed, raising serious questions about the effectiveness of the government's ban. Since February 1st, it has been a criminal offence to own an XL Bully in England and Wales without an exemption certificate.
Despite the legislation, many dogs remain in the community, and stories like Ian's are becoming tragically common. The attack has left him with severe physical wounds and deep psychological scars.
The Lasting Impact
The physical injuries: Ian suffered deep puncture wounds and severe bruising to his arm, requiring immediate medical attention. The sheer force of the attack could have caused permanent damage.
The emotional trauma: Beyond the physical pain, the emotional toll on both Ian and his son is immense. "My son is having nightmares," Ian revealed. "He's terrified to walk to school now. I jump at every dog I see. It changes you."
Calls for Stricter Enforcement
This attack has ignited fresh calls from campaigners and victims for stricter enforcement of the ban and tougher penalties for those who flout the law. Many argue that while the ban is a step in the right direction, more must be done to remove these powerful and potentially lethal animals from streets and homes.
Ian's story is a stark and terrifying reminder of the very real danger that persists. His bravery in speaking out highlights the urgent need for action to prevent another family from enduring such a nightmare.
