Married Music Teacher Pleads Guilty to Raping Student and Giving Birth to His Child
Naomi Tekea Craig, a 33-year-old married mother and music teacher, has admitted to a series of horrific child sex offences, including repeatedly raping a 13-year-old student and subsequently giving birth to his child. The disturbing case has sent shockwaves through the community of Mandurah, located 70 kilometres south of Perth, where Craig taught at an Anglican school.
Systematic Abuse and Disturbing Family Dynamics
The court heard that the abuse began in October 2024 when the victim was just 12 years old. Craig, who was employed at Frederick Irwin Anglican School at the time, engaged in a prolonged campaign of sexual abuse that lasted for over a year. This included the sexual penetration of the child, which constitutes rape under the law. Shockingly, days before the sexual abuse commenced, Craig encouraged her young victim to form a close bond with her own toddler son.
Disturbing video footage obtained by the Daily Mail shows the 12-year-old schoolboy sitting at a small toddler table beside Craig's pre-school age child, colouring together in what appears to be a doctor's waiting room. The pair appeared relaxed and familiar, happily swapping crayons, with the boy referring to the teacher's son as 'little bro'. This manipulation of family dynamics to facilitate abuse has been described as particularly chilling by observers.
Guilty Plea and DNA Confirmation
On Tuesday, Craig appeared via audio link in Mandurah Local Court and pleaded guilty to all 15 child abuse-related charges. These included multiple counts of sexual penetration of a child under 13, sexual penetration of a child over 13 and under 16, indecent dealings with a child, and possessing child exploitation material. Police confirmed that DNA tests have established the teenage victim as the biological father of Craig's child, who was born on January 8, less than three weeks before her court appearance.
Magistrate Clare Cullen read the charges aloud in court, to each of which Craig replied, 'Guilty, your honour.' The magistrate noted that the pleas were being expedited to the District Court for a sentence mention listing. Craig is represented by top Perth lawyer Reid Hogan and must attend her next court appearance in person on March 27.
School Response and Bail Conditions
Following Craig's arrest in December, the principal of Frederick Irwin Anglican School, Tracey Gray, sent a letter to parents and carers confirming the alleged victim was not a current student at the school. The letter stated, 'I regret to inform you that a teacher from our school has been arrested by police and charged with child-related offences. The teacher has been instructed not to attend the school.'
Craig was granted bail under strict conditions, including a personal requirement to front $20,000 plus an additional $50,000 in surety. She is prohibited from seeing anyone under the age of 18, including her eldest child, without supervision. The only exception to this court order is her newborn baby. The abuse is alleged to have occurred at locations in Silver Sands and Meadow Springs within the Mandurah area.
Community Shock and Ongoing Proceedings
The case has profoundly disturbed the local community, particularly given Craig's previously respected position. According to the school's website, she was often praised in newsletters for her active role in choir and music performances. A newsletter from October 2024 pictured her working with children aged five to twelve at a 'battle of the band rock concert', smiling while wearing a Nirvana t-shirt.
As the legal process continues, the focus now turns to the District Court, where Craig will face sentencing for her crimes. The case highlights severe breaches of trust and the devastating impact of child sexual abuse, with the victim, now a teenage father, and the children involved facing lifelong consequences.
