A man who committed one of Nottingham's most harrowing family murders has been sentenced to spend the rest of his life behind bars. Kobina Aidoo, 45, was found guilty of slaughtering his wife and two young children as they slept in their family home.
The Night of Horror
Nottingham Crown Court heard how Aidoo launched a vicious attack on his 42-year-old wife, Saba, and their children - a 14-year-old daughter and 11-year-old son - while they were completely defenceless in their beds. The prosecution described the scene as one of unimaginable brutality.
Emergency services discovered the horrific scene after being called to the family's Nottingham residence. Despite paramedics' desperate efforts, all three victims were pronounced dead at the location.
A Chilling Courtroom Scene
During the sentencing hearing, Mr Justice Pepperell condemned Aidoo's actions as 'the ultimate betrayal of trust' and described the murders as 'calculated and merciless'. The judge emphasised that the vulnerability of the victims, particularly the children, made the crimes especially heinous.
'You destroyed your entire family in the place where they should have felt safest,' the judge told Aidoo, who showed no emotion as the sentence was delivered.
Community in Mourning
The tragedy has left the local community reeling, with neighbours describing the family as 'quiet and well-liked'. Floral tributes and messages have been left near the family home, with one reading: 'Such beautiful lives taken too soon. Rest in peace angels.'
Detective Chief Inspector, who led the investigation, stated: 'This is one of the most devastating cases I've encountered in my career. The complete destruction of an entire family has had a profound impact on all involved in the investigation and the wider community.'
Life Means Life
Aidoo received a whole life order, meaning he will never be considered for release. This rare sentence is reserved for the most serious murders where the judge believes the offender should never walk free.
The case has highlighted ongoing concerns about domestic violence and the importance of intervention in family disputes before they escalate to unimaginable tragedy.
