Tragic Discovery in Enfield Bedroom
A 12-year-old Connecticut girl has been found dead under mysterious circumstances, surrounded by unidentified pills, shortly after allegedly being sexually assaulted by her stepfather. Eve Rogers was discovered unresponsive on the floor of her bedroom in Enfield last month, with blood emanating from her nose, according to police reports obtained by the Daily Mail.
Stepfather Charged with Serious Offences
Anthony Federline, 39, was arrested weeks later on April 2 and charged with first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor in connection with Eve's death. The Enfield Police Department responded to the home shortly after 10am on March 18 following a distressing 911 call.
Eve's mother, Melanie Federline, informed officials that her daughter had retired to bed around 10pm the previous evening, locking her door as was her customary practice. When Melanie attempted to wake Eve at 10am the next day, she received no response to her knocking, which immediately raised concerns.
Mother's Harrowing Discovery
In a state of panic, Melanie used a butter knife to force open the locked door. She found Eve unconscious with a blanket draped over her lap and her laptop open to YouTube. Pills had spilled onto the floor adjacent to her lifeless body, though authorities have yet to identify them precisely. Police noted one pill was pink while another contained white powder.
An additional pill, seemingly labeled as Aspirin, was positioned on Eve's desk. Melanie initially called her husband for assistance before dialling emergency services. Upon arrival, officers observed Federline to be emotionally overwhelmed and displaying signs of anger, initially refusing an interview and expressing a desire to "break things."
Evidence of Sexual Assault
When officials examined Eve, they discovered she was naked from the waist down and exhibited clear indications of sexual assault. Examiners performed a comprehensive sexual assault kit as police requested DNA samples from her mother, stepfather, and siblings present at the time. Federline reportedly described the DNA request as feeling like "salt in the wound."
Subsequent forensic analysis identified Federline as a "contributor" to DNA evidence collected. The precise cause of Eve's death remains undetermined as authorities await the completion of her autopsy and toxicology report, which may require several additional weeks.
Eve's Medical Background and Family Situation
Eve Rogers was autistic and had been diagnosed with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome. She was also in the process of being evaluated for bipolar disorder, according to police statements. Previously a student at Enfield Public Schools, Eve had been homeschooled by her mother since 2022.
Following this devastating tragedy, friends of the family established a GoFundMe campaign to provide support during this profoundly difficult period. A tribute on the fundraising page described Eve as "filled with passion, justice and light," highlighting her strong sense of empathy and commitment to her beliefs.
Community Response and Legal Proceedings
Enfield Chief of Police Alaric Fox confirmed that Eve's five siblings are currently in "good, safe and appropriate places" in the aftermath of these shocking revelations. Anthony Federline, who worked as a school bus driver for the Smyth Bus Company under contract with Enfield Public Schools, has been terminated from his position.
Federline is currently being held on a $1,000,000 bond with his arraignment scheduled for April 6. The Connecticut Medical Examiner's office continues its investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding Eve Rogers' untimely death as the community mourns the loss of a young girl described in her obituary as "unforgettable" and "uniquely herself."
