In a harrowing case that has shocked authorities in Harris County, Texas, three young sisters endured months of unimaginable captivity before an 11-year-old girl's brave escape brought their suffering to light.
The Desperate Escape
According to court documents, the nightmare began to unravel when the 11-year-old victim managed to free herself from restraints and flee the family home in northwest Houston. The courageous girl immediately sought help from neighbours, who were horrified by her emaciated appearance and disturbing account.
"She was extremely malnourished, you could see her bones," one neighbour told local media, describing the child's condition as heartbreaking.
House of Horrors Discovered
When police responded to the scene, they discovered two more sisters, aged 9 and 13, still inside the property. Investigators described finding all three girls with visible signs of prolonged malnutrition and evidence they had been regularly restrained.
"The 13-year-old had marks all over her body consistent with being tied up for extended periods," court records state. Officers noted the children appeared significantly underweight for their ages and showed other physical indicators of severe neglect.
Mother Faces Serious Charges
The girls' mother, 35-year-old Perla Rosa Cahue, now faces three counts of felony injury to a child with serious bodily injury. Harris County Sheriff's Office has confirmed the suspect is in custody with bond set at $45,000 per charge.
Court documents reveal the abuse had been ongoing for approximately four months, with the children being tied up and denied proper nutrition throughout this period.
Recovery and Investigation
All three sisters have been taken into protective custody and are receiving medical treatment and psychological support. Child protective services are working closely with law enforcement as the investigation continues.
Authorities have praised the 11-year-old's bravery, noting that her decision to escape and seek help likely saved all three sisters from further harm. The case has highlighted the importance of community vigilance in protecting vulnerable children.
