Former NBA Player Faces Serious Family Assault Allegations

Former NBA star Patrick Beverley has been arrested and charged with assault after shocking new details emerged alleging he choked and punched his teenage sister. The incident occurred in the family home in Richmond, Texas, leading to Beverley's arrest on Friday.

Violent Confrontation Over Boyfriend Visit

According to police documents obtained by Daily Mail, the altercation began when Beverley's minor sister left the family home in the middle of the night without permission to visit her boyfriend, identified as 18-year-old Aiden Hilderbrand. When she returned, her mother Lisa confronted her and instructed her to call Hilderbrand to pick her up.

After Hilderbrand arrived, Lisa Beverley invited him inside and brought him to her daughter's bedroom. She then asked her son Patrick to come to the house and enter his sister's bedroom. Police reports state that Patrick began yelling at his sister, asking 'what is wrong with her' before grabbing her by the neck and lifting her off the ground.

Detailed Account of Alleged Assault

The victim told officers she felt pain and believed she was losing oxygen during the incident, claiming her brother squeezed her neck for between 20 and 30 seconds. According to the probable cause affidavit, Beverley then allegedly pulled her from the room while still holding her neck and slammed her against walls.

His sister attempted to break free by grabbing his wrists before Patrick allegedly put her on a sofa, stood over her, and punched her approximately one time on her left eye with a closed fist. The report also claims Beverley told his sister that 'he will be the family relative to kill her.'

During the altercation, Lisa Beverley was allegedly in her room and told Hilderbrand to leave the property. Police say Patrick followed him outside before returning to inform his mother and sister that Hilderbrand had called the authorities.

Legal Proceedings and Beverley's Response

When police arrived, they observed marks on the victim's neck and blood spots under the skin around her eye. The 37-year-old former Milwaukee Bucks point guard was arrested and charged with one count of assault on a family member by impeding breath or circulation. He was held on a $40,000 bond, which he subsequently paid.

Beverley responded to the allegations on social media, posting: 'Please don't believe everything you see on the internet.' His attorney released a statement that appeared on Beverley's Instagram story, claiming the situation unfolded differently than described in police reports.

'Patrick Beverley has no criminal record. He cares deeply about his little sister – a young lady, a minor,' the statement read. 'Given that, when he unexpectedly found her alone in the home with an 18-year-old man in the middle of the night, he was understandably concerned, as any brother would be about his sister.'

The statement concluded: 'However, we don't believe what followed happened the way it's been described and we look forward to the opportunity to address that in court.'

Recent Controversies Surround Beverley

This incident represents the latest in a series of controversies for the former NBA player. Since leaving the NBA last year following a controversial end to his spell with the Milwaukee Bucks, Beverley most recently played in the Israeli Basketball Premier League with Hapoel Tel Aviv.

Before departing Hapoel via mutual consent, he was suspended by the team for mocking his coach, Dimitris Itoudis, on social media after being benched during a championship loss in February.

Beverley was also sued by two women over a heated courtside altercation that occurred towards the end of his time in Milwaukee. The incident saw him take his anger out after a playoff defeat to the Indiana Pacers by throwing a ball towards rival fans and hitting a woman on the side of the head.

In response to that incident, Beverley admitted: 'I have to be better, and I will be better. That should have never happened. Regardless of what was said, that should have never happened. Simple as that.' The NBA issued a four-game suspension over the incident, which he has yet to serve after leaving Milwaukee following that defeat.
