Jury Hears 999 Call After Ellie Butler's Fatal Injuries

Jurors in the murder trial of Ben Butler have heard the 999 call made by him and his partner, Jennie Gray, after their six-year-old daughter Ellie suffered fatal injuries at their home in Sutton, south-west London, in October 2013.

In the call, Gray is heard shouting: 'It's my daughter, she's not breathing.' The couple made the call two hours after Ellie sustained the injuries, the Old Bailey was told. First responder Sarah Hardy testified that Ellie was 'cold and blue' and had no heartbeat when she arrived.

Hardy said she noticed a 'boggy mass' on the back of Ellie's head and realised the cause was a traumatic cardiac arrest. A post-mortem revealed skull fractures from at least two severe impacts. The prosecution argues that Butler either beat Ellie with a heavy object or threw her against the floor or wall.

Butler denies murder, while Gray admits perverting the course of justice by hiding or destroying evidence. Both have denied a charge of child cruelty related to a previous shoulder injury. The trial continues.
