Kansas City Murder: Boyfriend's 18 Calls Before Halloween Party Shooting
Boyfriend made 18 calls before fatal shooting, police say

A young Kansas woman was fatally shot on a front porch after her boyfriend allegedly made eighteen phone calls in just two minutes, furious that she had attended a Halloween party against his explicit instructions, according to newly released court documents.

The Fatal Morning

Ana Juarez, 20, was gunned down in the early hours of November 1st in Kansas City, just days before her 21st birthday on November 4th. Wyandotte County officers responded to reports of a shooting around 4:30 am at the 700 block of North 11th Street, where they discovered Juarez on a front porch with a single gunshot wound to her lower back. She was transported to hospital but tragically succumbed to her injuries.

Controlling Relationship and Final Moments

Witnesses at the scene immediately pointed suspicion toward Juarez's boyfriend, with one remark captured on police body-camera footage stating: "It must have been her crazy boyfriend." Friends described the relationship between Juarez and 22-year-old Kevin Calamaco-Morales as "toxic" and controlling, revealing that he disliked her attending house parties and closely monitored her movements.

According to the arrest affidavit, when a friend initially invited Juarez to the Halloween celebration earlier in the week, she responded that "Kevin wouldn't let her." On the night of the tragedy, after Calamaco-Morales discovered her whereabouts, he unleashed a barrage of communication attempts.

Starting at 4:21 am, he made eighteen calls within two minutes, alongside a stream of text and social media messages. One partygoer reported seeing Juarez declining the incessant calls when Calamaco-Morales began shouting her name outside the property.

His Facebook messages grew increasingly aggressive, including: "You deada--?" and "Deadaaa bro?" followed by "Ight bet" and "You're out the f--ing house h-- a-- b--."

Arrest and Charges

Police allege that Calamaco-Morales went to the party location, approached the porch, and shot Juarez as she walked through the front door. Multiple witnesses identified him as the shooter, leading to his arrest at his home later that same day.

A friend of the suspect told investigators she believed Calamaco-Morales was responsible "because of his attitude towards and with Ana" and that "she doesn't do what he wants." The friend also confirmed she had previously seen him in possession of firearms.

Kevin Calamaco-Morales now faces charges of first-degree murder and criminal discharge of a firearm. He remains in custody at Wyandotte County Detention Center with bond set at $500,000 and is scheduled to appear in court on December 16th.
