A mum who thought she had found the perfect man online was actually the victim of a dating scam, losing thousands of pounds to a fraudster she met on a dating app.
The woman, from Liverpool, told the ECHO how she was targeted by a man she met on a dating site, who quickly won her trust before asking for money.
The scam
The man claimed to be working overseas and needed funds to cover travel expenses and other costs. Over several months, the woman sent him thousands of pounds, believing she was helping the man she had fallen for.
She said he was "charming" and "convincing", and that he had an answer for every question she asked. It was only when she tried to video call him that she realised something was wrong.
The aftermath
The woman reported the scam to the police and to the dating site, but she has not been able to recover her money. She is now speaking out to warn others about the dangers of online dating scams.
"I thought I had found the perfect man, but he was a liar and a thief," she said. "I want to warn other people so they don't make the same mistake."
