Reece Brown, 25, and Daniel Curran, 22, have pleaded guilty to firearms offences at the High Court in Glasgow after a bag of guns was found discarded on a street in the city.
Armed police were called to Tynecastle Street in Springboig after the guns and ammunition were discovered at around 8.55pm on Tuesday, May 5. A large cordon was set up around a wooded footpath while officers investigated the find.
Arrests Following Police Enquiries
Extensive enquiries by police led to a number of warrants being executed in the city 10 days later. Both Brown and Curran were arrested and charged.
Detective Sergeant Clarke said: "To discard firearms shows absolutely no regard for the safety of the local community."
Police Response and Conviction
He added: "Thankfully they were recovered by officers before they could cause serious injury to someone – or worse. Violence and the carrying of firearms is completely unacceptable."
Detective Sergeant Clarke said: "I believe these convictions sends a message to those involved in serious criminality that we remain determined to bring you to justice. This was a significant recovery and we worked closely with a range of partners to secure these convictions. I would also like to thank the public for their support throughout the investigation."
