Trial starts for man accused of stabbing teen who lost leg

The trial of Idris Ahmed, 19, who denies stabbing a 17-year-old boy in the leg with a knife, leading to the amputation of the victim's lower leg, has begun at Newport Crown Court.

Ahmed faces charges of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, unlawfully inflicting grievous bodily harm, and having an article with a bladed point. The alleged incident took place at Barry Island during the bank holiday weekend on May 25.

Court Proceedings Begin

Judge Daniel Williams entered the courtroom and the hearing began. The jury has been selected, and prosecutor Nuhu Gobir is expected to deliver his opening statement.

Ahmed, of Graham Walk, Riverside, Cardiff, was seen in the dock wearing a grey t-shirt and grey tracksuit bottoms. The public gallery was full of family and friends of both Ahmed and the alleged victim.

Charges and Background

A previous hearing at Cardiff Magistrates' Court heard that the 17-year-old suffered life-changing injuries from a "highly dangerous weapon". The wound to his leg resulted in the lower leg being amputated below the knee.

Ahmed denies all charges he faces. The trial is expected to last around 10 days.
