Idris Ahmed, 19, has admitted stabbing a 17-year-old boy in the right leg at Barry Island on Bank Holiday Monday, May 25. The attack left the victim needing his leg amputated. Ahmed changed his plea to guilty for causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing a bladed article in a public place, after initially denying the charges.
Court hears evidence from victim's friend
Newport Crown Court heard on the second day of the trial that Ahmed approached the victim from behind, pulled a knife from his shorts, and stabbed him in the leg without warning. The victim's friend gave evidence on Tuesday, describing how he saw a group of boys on the beach and recognised some of them through social media.
The friend told police he had "problems" with some of the boys, referring to "postcode wars" and the boys previously chasing him. He described Ahmed walking on the rock towards his group from "out of nowhere" before the attack.
Attack details and sentencing
The friend described in detail how he was beaten with a plastic shovel by someone else in the defendant's group as his friend was bleeding from a stab wound to his leg.
Judge Daniel Williams adjourned sentencing until Friday, November 27, so a pre-sentence report can be carried out.
