A witness in the murder trial of 15-year-old Amen Teklay told the court he saw blood near the boy after he collapsed in Glasgow. David Miller, 56, testified that he observed blood on the street near Amen in the St George’s Cross area on March 5 2025.

Two boys aged 16 and 17 are on trial accused of assaulting Amen, who was originally from Eritrea and lived in Glasgow with his father. Prosecutors allege the defendants brandished a sword and frying pan while masked, chased Amen, and struck him with the sword. The 16-year-old has lodged a special defence of self-defence. Amen died from his injuries in Clarendon Street.

Armed Robber Laughed Out of Shop

Finlay Crawshaw, 21, attempted to rob the News Plus convenience store in Edinburgh’s Gorgie area brandishing a large kitchen knife on November 27 last year. However, the two shop employees laughed at him and told him the till was empty. CCTV shows Crawshaw fleeing empty-handed. He was later arrested and charged.

Teen Thug Injures Police Officer with Brick

Kieran Sutherland, 19, threw a brick through a police van window during a Bonfire Night riot in Niddrie, Edinburgh, in October 2024. The brick struck PC Joanne Hiroz in the face, causing permanent scarring. Sutherland pleaded guilty to culpably and recklessly throwing the brick and injuring the officer. He avoided a jail sentence.

Abandoned Hospital Set Alight

Firebugs targeted the former Royal Alexandra Infirmary in Paisley on Sunday, June 28. Firefighters brought the blaze under control, and no injuries were reported. Police Scotland confirmed the fire was deliberate and an investigation is underway. Streets around the hospital were closed, and a specialist height appliance was used.

Teen Seriously Injured in Cow Crash

An 18-year-old passenger is fighting for his life after a blue 1980s BMW 635CS crashed into escaped cows on the A811 near Gartocharn, West Dunbartonshire. The crash occurred around midnight on June 28. Two cows died, and three had to be euthanised. The driver, a 22-year-old man, was arrested for a road traffic offence and released pending further enquiries. The teen was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.
