Dominique Harrison, a 28-year-old woman from Danbury, Connecticut, has been arrested for murder nearly nine years after her newborn son was found abandoned in a bin. She appeared in court on Monday, sobbing as prosecutors alleged she dumped the baby while he was still alive.
Details of the Case
The incident occurred in 2018 shortly after Harrison gave birth. The baby's remains were discovered at a waste collection centre in Stamford, approximately 30 miles from Danbury. Deputy Assistant State Attorney Mary Caitlin Harding told the court: 'The case before you paints a picture of a level of depravity that is nearly inconceivable.'
Prosecution's Allegations
Harding stated: 'The defendant here is charged with murdering her newborn son in a manner that is particularly heinous. The facts allege she put that newborn baby son alive in a dumpster in a remote area so that no one could save that baby’s life.' It remains unclear which bin truck disposed of the body. Police originally believed the baby was killed in Danbury but did not disclose a cause of death.
Arrest and New Evidence
An investigation into the 2018 discovery led to an arrest warrant for Harrison. The nature of new evidence has not been disclosed. Harding argued Harrison is 'a danger to society' and that further charges may be filed.
Defense Argument
Defense attorney Ryan McGuigan opposed custody before trial, saying: 'The state may paint her as a threat to society, but I don’t think that’s the case. She had been active in the community and has been able to maintain full-time employment.' Harrison's plea is unknown. She is due back in court on July 31.
