Lawyers representing the man charged with killing aid worker Elisabeth-Jane Ross have requested her UK medical records, as confirmed in court. The 38-year-old, known as Lisa, was found dead inside a suitcase in a derelict building in Athens' Kypseli area on July 18.
Charges and court appearance
Sharif Ahmadzai, 26, faces charges of homicide with intent, along with weapons and robbery offences. Homicide with intent is understood to be equivalent to a murder charge in Scotland. Ahmadzai appeared in court in Athens on Thursday and exercised his right to remain silent, submitting no plea.
Awaiting medical evidence
His lawyer, Christos Erdas, explained the silence: “The reason for the silence is because we are waiting in the near future for some more documents and evidence to come to the judge. All of them are related to medical documents from the doctor who examined Lisa’s body.” The cause of death has not yet been established, and this information is needed before a plea can be entered.
Greek police reported no signs of injury or harm on Ms Ross's body when it was discovered, with further tests ongoing to determine the cause of death. Erdas also confirmed a request for Ms Ross's medical records from the UK: “At the same time we also asked the judge to order the communication with the authorities in Scotland and the UK, to get all the medical papers for Lisa.”
