Greater Manchester Police have sealed off an area in Harpurhey, north Manchester, following reports that a 16-year-old girl was raped on Sunday afternoon (June 21). The victim is currently being supported by specialist officers, the force confirmed.
Police Scene and Investigation
Tactical Aid officers have been conducting fingertip searches of land beside Rochdale Road, close to the shopping centre and the former Bernard Manning's Embassy Club, throughout Tuesday (June 23). A cordon was put in place around 11am, according to local witnesses, and pathways were closed off. Multiple police vehicles remained at the scene.
One man told reporters: "The tape got put up about 11am I’ve been up since 8 and I’ve not seen anything happen on the fields." A nearby resident added: "It couldn’t have happened this morning, I went to the shops, came back and they were putting the tape up. All anyone knows is it was an incident."

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Officers investigating reports of a rape in Harpurhey have been undertaking enquiries in the area as they continue their investigation. Shortly after 8pm last night (22 June), a 16-year-old girl disclosed a report of a rape on Sunday afternoon close to the Rochdale Road area of Harpurhey. Enquiries are currently ongoing and specialist officers are continuing to support the girl as we work to establish the full circumstances."
