Five people—four women and one man—have been killed in a shooting at a youth welfare facility in the northern German town of Stade, police have confirmed. Two individuals, unofficially identified by German media as a 21-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman, remain in police custody in connection with the incident.
Injuries and Ongoing Investigation
An unknown number of people were injured, some seriously, and authorities have expressed concerns that the death toll could rise in the coming hours. The motive for the shooting and the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear at this stage. A further press conference is scheduled for 7:30 pm local time.
Separate Heatwave Affects Central and Eastern Europe
In a separate development, extreme temperatures continue to affect large parts of central and eastern Europe. According to AFP estimates, at least 130 million people are expected to experience temperatures of 35°C and above on the day of the report. Albania, Bosnia, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Serbia are among the countries most affected, with temperatures reaching up to 40°C.
