Nigel Farage's team have started trawling through emails sent to Ann Widdecombe to try and find any threats made against her. Ms Widdecombe was found dead at her Devon home on Thursday morning after sustaining serious injuries, sparking a manhunt to track down her killer.
Arrest Made in Rotherham
Detectives have now arrested a 28-year-old man in Rotherham, South Yorkshire on suspicion of her murder. Devon and Cornwall Police say they are not looking for anyone else. The arrest comes as a Reform UK source told the Daily Express that MPs voting to restrict political donations caps would be "be voting to put the lives of Reform politicians in danger."
Security Concerns for Reform UK Members
A Reform UK source told the Telegraph that party staff would begin searching through correspondence they have received to see if any threats had been made against the late former MP. Members of the Party have spoken about increased risks to their security, including the Reform deputy leader Richard Tice who told journalists he was forced to press his panic button last year after being followed by an aggressive man.
Mr Farage himself, when visiting Ms Widdecombe's home to lay a memorial wreath, said he feared that her death had been a premeditated killing. "It could be an individual with a grudge. It could be somebody with serious problems. I just personally think [that] the idea of a burglary... It just makes no sense to me at all. No sense to me at all," the Reform leader added.
Police Statement on Motive
Speaking at a press conference earlier today, Devon and Cornwall Police said that there was no suggestion "at this stage" that the alleged murder was politically motivated. Asst Chief Constable Matt Longman said: "At this point, there is still no information to suggest that this is a terrorism-related incident, and at this point we are not looking at anyone else in connection to this murder."
