Family of Lilly Jones Pays Tribute to 'Beautiful' Girl

The family of Lilly Jones, a 14-year-old girl whose body was discovered in a park in Blaina, have described her as 'the most beautiful, kind, and caring little girl' in a powerful tribute.

Discovery and Charges

Lilly's body was found in Duffryn Park, Blaina, on Monday, June 22, after she was reported missing. A 14-year-old boy has been charged with her murder and remanded in custody following a court appearance. A provisional trial date has been set for November 23.

On Tuesday, June 30, Gwent Police confirmed that formal identification of the body had taken place.

Family Statement

On Thursday, Lilly's family released a statement: 'As a family the word 'heartbroken' doesn't come close to what we feel. We'd like to focus more on Lilly and what a beautiful person she is rather than the horrific thing she's been forced to endure.'

'Lilly is the most beautiful, kind, and caring little girl we had the privilege to call our daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin, and friend. She is completely and utterly herself, she's quirky and confident, sassy and dramatic and loves her music.'

'Her eclectic taste in music took us from My Chemical Romance to Kate Bush and absolutely unapologetically sang every word on the top of her voice no matter who's listening. We could write a book about how amazing and accepting of all types of people she is, advocating for anyone who needed her to.'

'Our loss has left an unimaginable hole in not only our lives but in the whole community. We'd also like to take this opportunity to thank the community for their never-ending support and donations.'

Inquest Details

Last week, an inquest opening at Gwent Coroners' Court in Newport heard that Lilly was reported missing at 10.19pm on June 20. Her body was discovered in woodland near Blaina Bowls Club at 10.07pm on June 22.

A post-mortem examination was carried out by Dr Richard Jones, who provided a provisional cause of death as multiple stab wounds to the neck and trunk.
