Married couple Jim Mair, 43, and Stacy Mair, 35, were found dead by emergency services at Corsliehill Road in Houston, Johnstone on Monday morning, July 27, following reports of concern for an individual.
Investigation Unexplained
Police Scotland stated the deaths are currently being treated as unexplained. A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the precise cause of death in due course.
The pair tied the knot in May 2019 and jointly ran a tree surgeon company, but Stacey stepped down as a director earlier this year. Thorough enquiries continue as detectives strive to piece together the full circumstances surrounding the incident. However, officers said there is nothing at this stage to suggest anyone else was involved, reports the Daily Record.
Police Response
Photos captured by the Record at the scene on Tuesday show numerous police vehicles parked outside a property in Houston and a nearby road. Officers can be seen by the cottage where vans are also stationed in an adjacent field as well as combing nearby woodland.
The home is located on the main road, with another similar style of property situated just a few hundred yards away. Corsliehill Road is a narrow rural lane surrounded by farmland and a smattering of isolated properties, with little passing traffic. Reports indicate a significant emergency services response was seen in the area with a police helicopter also present on Monday.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "An investigation is ongoing into the deaths of a 36-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man in the Houston area. Around 7.50am on Monday, 27 July, 2026, we received a report of concern for a person in Corsliehill Road. Emergency services attended, and the body of a man and a woman were found nearby. The deaths are being treated as unexplained and post mortem examinations will be carried out in due course. Extensive enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances. At this time, there is nothing to suggest anyone else has been involved. Their relatives are aware and are being supported by specialist officers."
Ambulance Response
The Scottish Ambulance Service has confirmed it received a call at 8.33am and dispatched four special operations response teams, two ambulances and a critical care team to the scene. A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We received a call at 08.33 to attend an incident on Barochan Road, Houston, Johnstone. Four special operations response teams (SORT), two ambulances and one critical care team were dispatched to the scene."
