A horrifying incident unfolded at a Melbourne café when a car ploughed into diners enjoying their lunch, sending two women to hospital. The white Toyota Camry smashed into the outdoor seating area of Bakers Choice on Watsonia Road, in Melbourne's north-east, shortly before 2:30pm on Wednesday, 13 May.
CCTV Captures Terrifying Moment
Shocking CCTV footage shows the moment the vehicle struck a table where two women were sitting, flinging them from their seats. One woman was trapped under the car as it continued into the café next door. She was rushed to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a serious condition, while the second woman was taken to Austin Hospital. Both are now in a stable condition.
Witness Describes Chaos
A worker at the neighbouring café, Tony Rabie, described the scene to 7News. "We just heard a whole lot of screaming and heard something smash. We ran out from the barber shop next door and unfortunately there was an old lady just trapped under the car and another lady in front of the bakery," he said.
The driver of the Camry had been parked next to the outdoor table and lost control when driving off. Victoria Police confirmed that no charges were laid over the incident.
