British Dad Charged After Son Dies in Cyprus Hotel Fall

A British father has been charged with negligence following the death of his three-year-old son, who fell from a fourth-floor hotel window in Chloraka, Paphos, Cyprus. The boy, reportedly playing 'aeroplanes' with his dad, plunged 33 feet from a corridor window at around 6:40 pm on July 12.

Incident Details

An ambulance rushed to the scene, but the boy was unresponsive. He was taken to Paphos General Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. The 37-year-old father was arrested on Sunday, the day after the tragedy. The family, including a five-year-old daughter, had only arrived on holiday that day. The fall occurred in front of the boy's grandfather as they were heading downstairs for dinner.

Court Proceedings

The father appeared before Paphos district court on Monday morning, where police requested an eight-day remand for investigation. Local media reported that the father broke down in tears, causing a pause in the session. Paphos Assistant Police Director of Operations, Michalis Nikolaou, confirmed the father faces charges of causing death by a reckless or dangerous act, neglect of duty as head of the family, and neglect of responsibility as a caregiver.
