Russell Brand accuser tells court she was 'treated like an animal'
Brand accuser: 'treated like an animal'

A woman who accuses Russell Brand of raping her at his home has told a court she later texted him that he had treated her "like an animal". The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, gave the account in video-recorded interviews with the Metropolitan Police that were played to jurors at Southwark Crown Court on 21 October.

Meeting at the Hammersmith Apollo

Brand is accused of raping the woman in 2009 after meeting her at one of his stand-up comedy performances at the Hammersmith Apollo. The woman told the Metropolitan Police she was a fan of the comedian and willingly engaged in a threesome backstage at the gig.

A few days later she agreed to meet Brand at his £2.3 million home in Hampstead Village knowing they would have sex. In her video-recorded interview, she alleged the consensual sexual encounter turned to rape when Brand forced her into anal sex.

Account of the alleged attack

Describing what allegedly happened after leaving the shower, the woman said: "He told me to brush my teeth, we went into the bedroom and went on the bed, we kissed and started having normal penetrative sex after some foreplay."

Asked how she felt during the consensual sex, the woman replied: "I don't think I enjoyed it, not because I didn't feel I had consented to it. I completely did… I just felt really uncomfortable, I think. I felt really uncomfortable, and from having to take the shower, to brush (my teeth)… I didn't feel the way he had made it sound in the messages."

In the video the woman recalled asking Brand to stop "repeatedly" and him ignoring her after she alleged that he took the condom off, which she had asked him to wear. She then accuses him of anally raping her. The woman, who was in her early 20s at the time, remembered saying: "Can you stop, can you stop, can you stop and I said it repeatedly."

She said that Brand "looked horrified" after the alleged rape before he "put the TV on" and took a phone call. A man then arrived to get Brand ready for his show at "the Hammersmith". Asked during the interview if any conversations had taken place with Brand about the sexual acts that would be happening, she said: "Not from my memory, no." Asked if there was a conversation about anal sex with him, she replied: "No."

Text messages shown to jurors

Jurors were then shown a second video interview from the woman given in August 2025. She said that around six months after the alleged rape, Brand sent her a "random" text message.

The woman said: "My response to the message was 'why are you even messaging me?' And I remember his response, saying 'because you're dirty and I want to push you further'. I didn't respond straight away, I was upset."

She said that she responded to Brand's message either later or the next day saying: "I think you've pushed me far enough, you treated me like an animal." The woman added: "I do remember his response was immediate. He said I'm sorry."

She told the officer in the second interview that she felt "completely degraded" when she was at Brand's house, and felt his response to her message was "horrible". She said: "His response was horrible… the second one, I feel how I felt at his house was that I felt completely degraded and like I'd been treated like an animal, like a piece of meat." The woman said that his message was a "confirmation" of how she was feeling about herself.

Brand denies all charges

Brand was joined by his wife Laura Gallacher again this morning as he arrived at the central London court. The 51-year-old was wearing a brown checked overcoat, an open white shirt under a grey waistcoat and a black and white necktie.

Brand is on trial accused of three rapes, three sexual assaults, and an allegation of indecent assault. He denies all the charges against him. The trial continues.
