Bake Off star charged with child abuse after indecent images

Great British Bake Off contestant John Mincher has been charged with making Category A indecent child images after police discovered abuse images on his devices. The former Channel 4 star appeared in court after being accused of the offence, which is classified as the most serious under UK sentencing guidelines for indecent images of children.

Arrest and Court Appearance

Mincher, 39, was arrested in August after authorities found two indecent images of a child on his devices. He appeared before a judge at Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court on Friday, October 16, where he entered a not guilty plea to the single charge.

Deputy District Judge Kate Harney described the charges as "incredibly serious" before releasing Mincher on conditional bail. He is due to appear back in court next month.

Background and Bake Off Career

Mincher became a household name early in series 15 of the competition when he wept with joy after celebrity chef Paul Hollywood shook his hand and named him star baker in the first episode. At the time, he said: "I don't want to cry, but I'm so proud of myself, and they are good tears."

However, he failed to impress the judges during bread week in episode three and became the third contestant to leave the show, saying: "It's just how it is. Because everyone is so talented, you drop the ball, and then it is your time to go."

Mincher later said that being on the show changed his life: "It has given me the confidence to believe in myself and to know that I am good enough to achieve whatever I want in life."

In photos, Mincher was seen leaving Wolverhampton court wearing a white shirt and dark green tie, after opting to stand trial before a jury. He will appear in court again next month.
