Freya MacLean, a 19-year-old university student and dancer, died in a tragic accident at the Falls of Falloch beauty spot near Stirling. Her body was discovered on Saturday morning after police received reports of a woman in difficulty in the water around 10:45pm on Friday night.
Parents' Tribute
Her parents, Samantha and Ruaraidh, described Freya as a “beautiful soul” whose kindness knew no bounds. In a statement to the Record, they said: “Beloved by family, friends and the wider community, Freya was a truly beautiful soul whose kindness knew no bounds. Her warm smile, infectious laughter and caring heart brought comfort and joy to everyone she met.”
They added that her personality lit up every room and that her legacy of kindness will live on forever. They requested privacy during this time.
Dance Community Mourns
Freya was studying primary education at Glasgow University and was a member of JC Dance and Cheer Academy. The academy launched a GoFundMe page that has raised nearly £2,000 for her family. Organisers Charlene McDonald and Laura-Jane Gelston wrote: “Freya truly made such a huge impact on all of our girls. She was truly special and made everyone feel like a friend.”
They described her as a “Glitter Girl” with an infectious personality and a heart full of kindness. The funds will help cover unexpected costs for the family.
Police Investigation
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “The death is being treated as unexplained, but there are no apparent suspicious circumstances.” The incident occurred at the Falls of Falloch, a popular tourist spot near Stirling.
