A murder investigation has been launched after the body of a 55-year-old man was discovered in a derelict TGI Fridays restaurant in Sheffield. Two women have been arrested on suspicion of murder.
Body Found at Closed Restaurant
South Yorkshire Police were called to reports of suspicious activity around the former TGI Fridays on Sheffield Road on Wednesday, June 10. Officers subsequently found the body of a 55-year-old man at the scene. The man has not yet been formally identified, but his next of kin have been informed and are being supported by police.
Arrests Made
Two women, aged 35 and 54, were arrested on suspicion of murder on Thursday, June 11. They remain in custody for questioning. A police cordon around the building is expected to remain in place until Friday evening, June 12.
Police Appeal
Detective Chief Inspector Laura Procter, Senior Investigating Officer, said: “Officers have been conducting various enquiries since the man’s body was sadly found, with the aim of building up a full picture of the circumstances which led up to this incident. I am particularly keen for anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area around the TGI Fridays building in the days leading up to Wednesday, to get in touch with us.”

TGI Fridays Distance Themselves
TGI Fridays has clarified that the Sheffield Road site closed in January 2026 and is no longer owned by the company or any affiliated organization. The closure was part of a wider shutdown of 16 UK restaurants after the company’s UK operator went into administration.
