The Metropolitan Police has launched a murder investigation following the death of Ahmed Jama, a 50-year-old man who succumbed to serious head injuries five days after an assault in Islington, north London. Officers were called to Hungerford Road at around 4am on July 10 after reports of an assault. Mr Jama was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead on July 15 despite medical efforts.
Arrests and Bail
Two women, aged 18 and 19, were arrested on July 12 on suspicion of grievous bodily harm in connection with the incident. They have since been released on bail as enquiries into Mr Jama's death continue. Mr Jama's next-of-kin have been informed and are receiving support from specially trained officers.
Police Appeal
Chief Superintendent Jason Stewart, who leads policing in the area, said: "Our thoughts are first and foremost with Ahmed's family and loved ones at this extremely difficult time. As enquiries continue, local residents can expect to see a continued police presence in the area over the coming days. I would ask anyone with any information, CCTV or doorbell camera footage which could support the investigation to contact us."
