An inquest has been opened and adjourned into the death of 18-year-old motorcyclist Oakley Shim, who was killed in a collision with a car on Anchor Road in Stoke-on-Trent on August 5.
Details of the collision
Coroner Daniel Howe told the inquest opening that death occurred at the junction of Wood Street and Anchor Road, following a road traffic collision. Post-mortem examinations were undertaken, and the cause of death was given as a catastrophic head injury.
Mr Howe ordered Cambridge House Surgery to provide a report by September 10. He also awaits a report from Staffordshire Police regarding the details of the collision, as well as the final post-mortem report. He extended his deepest condolences to all of Oakley's family and friends.
Memorial bench appeal
Friends say the popular teenager had recently purchased his 'dream bike' prior to the fatal accident. Residents in the Bentilee area of the city launched a memorial bench appeal following Oakley's passing, and the campaign has already raised more than £1,500.
A date for the full inquest hearing will be confirmed once all evidence has been gathered. Staffordshire Police continue to appeal for witnesses in connection with the collision; anyone with information should contact police on 101, quoting incident number 247 of August 5.
